The first time I visited Sedona was in the summer of 2004. After I finished attending Dahn Yoga Healer School at Sedona Mago Retreat, I had an extra day to spend in Arizona and decided to visit Sedona. I had heard many good things about it and could not wait to visit.

Three other people joined me on this trip and we met the night before to plan our journey using maps and a tour guide. It was very hot and we decided to take the hike that went by a creek, but for some reason, when we actually got to Sedona, we went on a long drive to see ancient rock drawings.

When we finally got to our destination, a small trail took us to a steep cliff with little drawings that entertained me for only 5 minutes. After looking at the cliff drawings I was standing to the side while my friend was discussing the drawings with a Park Ranger. It turned out they were not discussing the drawings, but the Ranger was interested in me. When he asked my friend who I was she responded that I am a healer. The ranger was very interested and told her that he has had many dreams where a woman who looks just like me comes and heals him.

When they came over my friend told me the Ranger has had a back problem since childhood and that I should try to heal his crooked back. I was not happy that we wasted our free day looking at little drawings on a wall and on top of it I did not want to heal this man’s back on some tiny trail surrounded by thick bushes. Everyone was waiting for me to try to heal this Ranger so I decided to try.

The Ranger kept telling me more and more about the issue with his back and the more he told me the less I knew what to do. I decided to put one hand on his chest and one on his back not knowing what to expect. Suddenly I felt his bones soften under my touch and I started to slowly push on his back. His back began to straighten as if it was made of clay and after a few minutes the Ranger was standing straight up.

Everyone was mesmerized by what had just happened and they were just staring at us in awe. At this point I remembered what someone had told me earlier, “When people who do not believe in God come to Sedona they begin to believe.”

On our way back, everyone realized that our journey to Sedona had nothing to do with looking at cliff drawings. Its purpose was for me to heal this man’s body.

The Call of Sedona- Journey of the Heart, by Ilchi Lee

Review by: Dylan R. Marshall

Many people have been to Sedona, and many more will come. The draw of its visual majesty is undeniable. Sedona is, and always will be a source of Awe and Inspiration.

Mr. Lee knows all of these things…and more.

He uses plain and straightforward language, and his personal experiences, to take you by the hand and share his Joy, Passion, and Discovery of this spiritual refuge.

‘The Call of Sedona- Journey of the Heart’ is quite possibly the most deeply passionate book ever written about the Red Rocks.

Ilchi Lee playing his flute

Mr. Lee takes us there by sharing himself:

“I was born in December 1950, amidst the fires of the Korean War. When I was young, I was unusually softhearted and physically weak. I encountered many difficulties because I couldn’t focus well on my studies at school…demanding questions like, “Why am I here?” wouldn’t leave me alone, so I couldn’t focus on what I was supposed to be learning.”

He speaks of a transformative experience:

“…at age 14, I was involved in a tragic accident. I went to go swimming in the reservoir with a friend and he drowned. Because of the shock and grief I felt, I was sick in bed for nearly a month afterward and experienced acute fear and anxiety about death.”

He comments on his indignation with Life:

“God, if you put me on this world without bothering to get my permission, shouldn’t you at least tell me why I should live?”…I felt a resentment that wasn’t directed toward anyone in particular and I was bursting with questions that had no answers.”

He shares his frustrating early searches for those answers:

“…I started wandering about in search of someone who could give me the answer to the issues of life and death, or at least offer some clues! I looked for and found books about philosophy and the spiritual world, and every time I had a chance, I would seek out people who were said to have performed ascetic practices in the mountains…But I couldn’t find anything that resonated within me…”

Moak Mountian in Korea

He speaks of his enlightenment:

“I had reached that moment where I had to give up on “life and death”- whether I wanted to or not. As I resigned myself to my fate, I said, “O Heaven…Please do as you see fit”…And that’s when something amazing happened…”

“…I had come to have faith that if I gave my sincere devotion to an extreme situation, a strength other than my own would come and guide me, lifting me up.”

“…music of the universe reverberated in my heart and the breath of nature went in and out through my skin.”

The Amazing Bell Rock, Sedona Arizona

He talks of his discovery of Sedona:

“In early 1996, I was reading a newspaper…I saw a photo that immediately grabbed my attention…The red rocks were so real they felt like they might jump out of the paper at me.”

He shares his first experiences with a Sedona guide:

“This guide…came to me one day and said, “There’s a saying, ‘When you come to Sedona, you have to set aside all of your personal thoughts and desires. If you don’t, you can’t receive Sedona’s energy and furthermore you could pollute Sedona.’ That’s why, you have to clear your mind and prepare yourself before you come.”

He tells us the most Important Question:

“…though I had had many names and titles, there had always been only one question behind everything I had done. That question was, “Who am I?”…”

He explains the role of the Earth:

“…the Earth is also an organic life form; it has an energy system similar to that of the human body. Vortexes perform a similar role for the Earth as chakras do in the human body…The vortex energy of Sedona has the power to correct the energy imbalance in the human chakras.”

He Illuminates the Pathway towards Self-Realization:

“…You have to know that the sense of being that seems to extend infinitely without beginning or end is not an illusion…you are then able to embrace all moments of life with confidence…”

He shares his Sedona epiphany:

“As I looked at the dazzling beauty of Sedona’s Earth and sky awash with the morning sun, my heart skipped a beat, and it occurred to me that this just might be the place that I had been searching for for so long.”

And this is only a mere fraction of this amazing book…

‘The Call of Sedona- Journey of the Heart’ is a rich, interwoven tapestry of personal experiences, philosophical reflections, and celebration of the harmonious energy of the Red Rocks. It delves into the infinite possibilities that will manifest themselves when you meditate on the bucolic serenity of Sedona.

It is poignant and engaging at every turn.

‘The Call of Sedona’ is a Love Letter written not only about Sedona, but also about a Deep and Abiding love and concern for all humanity.

Thank you so much Mr. Lee!

My “SEDONA” Story

Sedona Sunset

In June of 2007, I attended Dahn Healer School in Sedona, Arizona.

My husband Sam who was my true soul mate for 49 years had passed away several months earlier and needless to say, I was having difficult times coping. I wanted to learn and experience healing others but mostly, I wanted to heal myself. As sad as it was, I knew that death was a natural part of our lives and I also knew that it would take time to accept and let him rest in peace.

At the Healing School, Sam’s presence was felt all the time and I was having a conversation with him constantly….”Wow, look at this Mago Garden, isn’t it gorgeous?”; “Oh, look! Little bunny is hopping around!” During the partner healing session, my mind would be talking to Sam saying, “I wish I could be doing this for you … just what you need.”

On the 4th day, something woke me early in the morning while it was very dark outside. I tippy toed outside and sat on a rock and gazed at the sky full of bright twinkling stars. I could not believe how peaceful it was surrounded by such beauty!! All of a sudden, without any thought-process, a poem came through my mouth … had someone being there, surely it would have been heard.
I know this Poem poured out of my heart and not my brain. How could I even think up this poem and recite it without a pause?!!!

I had smile on my face as it came out:
“YOU, who so loved the earth – trees and flowers
Marveled at the wings on the birds to enable them to fly
I release you now into this Mago Garden
Do fly through the sky and be among the brightest of stars,
In the morning come down with the dew,
Noon time, be with the Sun and shine on me and watch over me.”

I closed my eyes and said a prayer of peace for him and me. I felt such peace and joy … felt totally free! He can now rest in peace!

In the morning, when we had sharing time, I wanted so much to share this experience but somehow I could not because it was, to me, so private, so sacred and also so unbelievable.

A couple of years later, a few of us Dahn Healer School Graduates were asked to share our experiences with those who expressed interest in attending Healer School in the future. When my turn came to express my thoughts, I spoke of the incredible healing I experienced in Sedona. That Poem came back to me without skipping a beat…. As unbelievable as it may be, it did not come out of my “thought / brain,” how could I have memorized it??!! When I finished, some ladies wept with me.
What a freeing tear that was!!

So…..SEDONA, thank you!! Thank you, Mago Garden, its majestic beauty touched me so to free Sam and give me such peace and joy!
